Even though this is not a ranking based list, but i can’t start the list without True Detective at the top.
True Detective is an American Crime drama television series originally aired on HBO. With a total of 3 seasons this is one of the best detective show out there.
First season aired with class actors like Matthew McConaughey & Woody Harrelson in the main role and received acclaim from critics and earned high ratings for HBO.
Third season was available in 2019 with Mahershala Ali’s mesmerizing performance. Definately on top of list for Best Detective Shows Similar to Sherlock.

2. Broadchurch.
Broadchurch is a British serial crime drama television series broadcast on ITV for three series between 2013 and 2017.
The plot starts with death of a young boy which sparks a complex murder investigation that puts a entire town, its residents and its secrets under a national spotlight.
David Tennant & Olivia Colman did a great job with their performance.
Broadchurch relies on intriguing characters to keep your interest in the puzzle and the secrets each character holds.
Each shot framed like a painting featuring the stunning cliffs and beaches around the Dorset coast is just Stunning. Must watch Detective Show that you need to watch if you liked sherlock

3. Mindhunter
Mindhunter is an American psychological crime thriller web television series created by Joe Penhall, based on the true-crime book Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit.
The series is definately disturbing but is as gripping as a bear hug. It’s talk heavy, slick, Fincher crime adapted awesomely for the small screen.
What makes Mindhunter so gripping is the way it takes its time getting under your skin.
Yes i did felt many scenes are just a lot of talk. But damn it does get you.
Mindhunter is available on Netflix, with each episode just under an Hour.
4. Elementary
Based on the original sherlock Holmes novels, elementary is seen from a new perspective, where we see holme’s addiction and rehabilitation as well as a female counterpart of John, Dr. Joan watson.
The show makes a few crafty choices I haven’t seen before, but ultimately it’s a fairly by-the-numbers police procedural with a case of the week format. If you’re into that sort of thing, absolutely worth watching.
I watched Elementary on Prime Video, so go ahead and watch if interested.
5. The Wire
Though it takes its time getting started, after the premis starts The Wire is worth the wait, spinning a connective web of characters and delivering no-holds-barred commentary on some of America’s unsettling societal problems.
A complex crime drama set in Baltimore that follows the thread of a single police investigation.
Firstly from the perspectives of both law-enforcement officials and the criminals they’re pursuing focused on the city’s illegal drug trade in the first series before expanding in scope for the second to include corruption on the waterfront.

6. Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency
This show consists of an eccentric detective and his reluctant assistant encounter bizarre mysteries and try to use unlikely sources and random clues to solve them.
This Show sometimes overdoses on pure weirdness but offers absurdist rewards to those who stick with it. This is sooo underrated, ends up making you passionate about it..
With the news of 3rd season getting cancelled, there are several potential stories from its source material in hanging.
Available on netflix, with run-time of an hour.
